TOURISM
Cruise among great little riverside towns in your own floating home. Stop for a round of golf at some of the best courses in South Australia;
or explore charming pioneer villages and internationally renowned bird sanctuaries before getting down to the serious business of food and wine.
There's a good reason why nearly half of South Australia's wine grapes (and 90 per cent of our oranges, stone fruits and nuts) are grown in the Riverland. It's all the sunshine … and it's sure to do you some good too.
The Riverland is a couple of hours from Adelaide and from western Victoria, and perfectly located for a few days of rest and relaxation on the drive between South Australia and the eastern states.
Find your own secluded place to admire the views and indulge in a gourmet picnic, complete with local wine and produce purchased earlier in the day at the cellar door and roadside stalls.
Take a leisurely walk through a national park, paddle a canoe in the backwaters or steer your houseboat into a bay. All of these places are alive with native wildlife for you to see.
Step back in time to follow in the steps of explorers, overlanders, pioneers and bushrangers at the many historical attractions, and appreciate the indigenous cultural heritage of the region.
If a more action packed itinerary appeals, a choice of water-skiing, swimming, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, jet-skiing and fishing beckon. If land action is more your style, the district has a recreation centre, extensive playing fields, courts, bowling greens and stunning golf courses.
Shopping can also be added to the itinerary with seven day trading and at the end of a long day don't miss the taste of delicious food from any one of the Riverland's many quality restaurants.
